Welcome to our classroom!
May 15, 2020
Dear Remarkable Third Grade Students and Guardians,
This is always such a bittersweet time of year, this year more than ever. We've all worked very hard and are ready for some much needed time off, but we've built a tight-knit classroom community, and we'll miss each other so much. It has simply been a wonderful year working with all of you, one I will never forget. The way in which you uprooted your lives and adjusted to distance learning has truly been inspiring and impressive. I am humbled and grateful to be able to work with such positive role models.
So, this is it, our final week of third grade and distance learning! Congratulations and well done to all of you! This last week of school is designated as a week for students to complete any missing assignments or tests and to review content in different subject areas. All work needs to be submitted on or before Wednesday, May 20th.
This week we will continue to complete our Mountain Math and Mountain Language assignments. I've also assigned some great nonfiction reading by visiting the Scholastic News Distance Learning website. This week is also an excellent time for students to set up an account with Khan Academy, and then start using its lessons to help retain the math skills we've learned this year and to grow new math skills in preparation for fourth grade. Remember that all students need to have multiplication and division facts mastery to be ready for fourth grade math. This is also a great week to explore some of the keyboarding websites that are included in the "Keyboarding" tab on the left of this page. In fourth grade students will be typing many of their assignments, so this summer makes an ideal time to start learning how to keyboard correctly. Also, this week we will be completing two pages per day of our Third Grade Memory Booklet. By the end of this week, students will have a lovely 20 page book that provides a snapshot of their third grade experience. Make sure to keep these booklets and add them to your Third Grade Portfolio. Finally, continue to read at least 30 minutes a day and take the time to write daily in a journal of some sorts. By doing these things this week and continuing to read, write, type, and practice math skills during the summer break, you will help yourself be ready for fourth grade.
Take care and best wishes,
Jan Roberts
